Homemade Facial Masks Guide

The first thing people notice about us is our appearance, especially our skin. It tells a big story in one glance. Sometimes we might look tired or sick, simply because our skin is not looking great. Let's fix that!

There are things you can do at home to perk up your skin and you probably have the ingredients on hand to cook simple facial masks at home.

Baking Soda Facial Masks

Baking soda is excellent for all types of skin. There are several things you can do with it!

Exfoliate: Mix 1 teaspoon baking soda with 1 tablespoon warm water and 2 teaspoons oat flour. (You can make your own oat flour by grinding oatmeal in a coffee grinder until it looks like flour.) Rinse your face and apply the mixture, rubbing it in with a circular motion. It will dry in 3-5 minutes. Splash warm water on your face and wash gently away with your fingers or a washcloth. This facial mask will give you smooth and soft skin.

Moisturize: Baking soda when coupled with coconut oil create a great moisturizing effect on the skin. Mix 1/2-1 teaspoon of coconut oil to 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Apply to your face and let dry for 5-10 minutes. Then massage your face with a circular motion for 2-3 minutes. Rinse with cool water.

Soothe: After a hard day your skin can be in need of a little soothing. Try a soothing face mask as a treat for yourself. Mix 1 teaspoon honey, 1 teaspoon coconut oil, 1/4 ripe avocado, and 2 drops of lavender oil. Apply to your face for a few minutes, and then rinse off with warm water and a soft washcloth.

Other Facial Masks

If your skin is oily, try a super-easy mask made from avocado and cucumber. (This is also a great treat for a hot day!) Mix in a food processor (a little one if you have it) half of an avocado and 1/4 of a cucumber. Process until both vegetables are nicely blended. Apply to your skin for a few minutes and wash off. Your face should feel as good as new!

Nevertheless, beware that baking soda might irritate your skin when using it too often. Also, be careful when using baking soda if you have sensitive skin.
